Dear Philip and Anne,
I apologize - I thought I had sent this message ages ago, right when we returned
from the UK!
We neglected to write in the guestbook before we left and wanted to make
sure we let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Castle Hill Farm Cottages.
I did take the time to read some of the comments in the guestbook, and it was
amazing how many people said the same things - home away from home, exceptionally
clean, very nice and accommodating proprietors, love the dogs and cats.
We agree wholeheartedly!
We've travelled a lot and stayed at some very nice hotels and B&Bs. We agree without
a doubt that your farm is the best place we've stayed in the UK! We enjoyed both
Laithe Cottage and Stable Cottage. They both were exceptionally clean - we felt as if
we were the first people ever to stay there! They're beautifully decorated,
comfortable and modern. They contained everything we could possibly need. You've
really thought of everything!
The location is fabulous - gorgeous views and walks right outside the door. The
courtyard is a nice place to relax and let the kids play with Bob and Jock. There are so
many things to do nearby. We visited Cannon Hall and really enjoyed it. Not only are
the grounds beautiful for a walk and a picnic (and making fairy houses) but also there
is a nicely done farm at the back where children can feed animals and play on a very
nice adventure playground. We had a very nostalgic day at Filey beach (only 1.5 hours
away) and another nostalgic day visiting the caves at Castleton (1 hour). We also
spent a couple of days in the Lake District in Rydal Water and Grasmere visiting all
things Beatrix Potter (2 hours away). Next time we hope to visit some of our other
favorite places nearby - York, Castle Howard, Thirsk, Howarth and Keighley Railway.
We're looking forward to many visits in the years ahead. Now that there will not be a
family home for us in the area, we'll think of Castle Hill Farm Cottages as our home
away from home in Yorkshire.
Thank you so much for your hospitality. You are both so kind and Anne, I really
enjoyed meeting your parents as well. They're lovely people. You all are.
Staying at your farm made a difficult time bearable and allowed us to keep from
dwelling on the sadness and shock we all felt, especially the children.
Our youngest daughter cried when we left and said, "I miss Bob and Jock." She's
still talking about them.

Greetings from California! We're here with our two boys (ages 7 & 9) - what a
luxurious cottage! Much larger and more modern than our house back in
Santa Cruz (50 miles south of San Francisco, on the Monterey Bay).
I've been watching "All Creatures Great & Small" on video tapes at home
and wanted to make a family trip to the Yorkshire area. I was thrilled to
meet Philip - a real farmer that grew up on this property! Just like the
TV show! Imagine my surprise when he started talking about the internet,
websites and the software that he sells - all in that wonderful accent. I
guess there aren't many left that can talk about pigs and cows.
We love it here - everything is immaculate. And the visiting kitty is a
p.s. Thank you for your hospitality during our stay. We really enjoyed it
